Become a Friends Library Advocate
"I love volunteering with the friends because I love books, book people, and libraries. It's a great way to connect with good friends, and get involved with fun projects like One Book, One San Diego and the Children's Book Festival."
Carleen Hemric
Secretary
Friends of the San Diego Public Library
Most branch libraries have a Friends of the Library group that conducts booksales, fundraises and advocates for library programs.
San Diego's Library Friends groups have a 30 year history with 4,000 dedicated volunteers in 38 chapters. They are central to campaigns to build or renovate libraries—such as the Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa and North University Community Branch Libraries. Since 1978, Friends groups have contributed more than $15 million to the Library.
You can support your library by joining your local Friends group and by becoming a Friends Advocacy Network member.
Become a Library Advocate
Members of the Library Advocacy group receive regular e-mail communications about Library issues and help deliver the library's message to elected officials, media, neighbors and community leaders. To join this network, enter your e-mail here and select the "Friends Library Advocacy" group from the sign up list.
How to Join
