Youth Programming
Your support brings crucial reading and literacy programs to kids and teens.
Children's books are literally loved to death at the library. Children frequently read the same favorite books over and over and pages become smudged and torn, covers dirtied and worn. The most popular titles, like Goodnight Moon, The Very Hungry Catapillar or Harry Potter are read again and again and need to be replaced regularly. You can make a contribution to buy a book for the Library and the impact of your gift will be doubled with a special matching fund. Visit HERE to buy a book.
The Center at the San Diego Public Library is a circulating library that promotes literacy and reading. The Center ensures broad access to high-quality books for children and adolescents in Spanish and in English about Latino people and culture. Visit HERE for more information.
From June to August, the branch library in your neighborhood holds special Summer Reading activities motivating kids and teens to discover recreational reading.
A series of online Library resources help prepare students for school success. Visit HERE to use these resources and HERE for more information.
Entering its 14th year, the Student Writing for Literacy Essay Contest promotes literacy through reading and writing. Students in the 4th, 8th and 10th grade (both public and non-public school students) served by a San Diego Public Library are eligible to enter. The contest is sponsored by the Friends of the San Diego Public Library, the San Diego Public Library and the San Diego Unified School District Library Media Teachers. For more information on the 2011 contest, visit HERE.
