Capital Projects
In 2002, the Mayor and City Council approved an ambitious Library Improvement Program - the 21st Century Plan. The plan called for the construction of the New Central Library and 24 branch libraries (12 new and 12 expanded). With the support of public and private partners, the Library has opened eight new or expanded branch libraries since 2002 and begun construction on the New Central Library.
Recently Completed. The Logan Heights Branch Library opened in December 2009. The new 25,000 square foot library replaces a 3,967 square foot library that was built in 1927.
Naming opportunities exist for many key and visible areas at many branch libraries, including at the new Logan Heights Branch Library. For more information, call 619-238-6638 or email the Library Foundation.
21st Century Plan Libraries to be Built. These remaining libraries in the 21st Century plan are awaiting funding to move forward with construction. Multiple naming opportunities exist for these planned branches. Donors interested in gifts to support these library projects can contact Jay Hill at 619-236-5861 or by e-mail.
