The San Diego Public Library and the Friends of the Library reported they have met the City's $1 million matching program for the fiscal year ending June 30. This means $2 million in support for Library system books, programs, services and materials.
This is the seventh straight year that the Friends and Foundation have met the City's matching program and maximized the funds available for the Library system.
Private support for the San Diego Public Library remains critical as San Diegans turn to their libraries for support in record numbers. For fiscal year 2010, the Library for the second straight fiscal year set a new circulation record -- circulating more than 7.7 million items. More items were circulated last fiscal year than ever in the Library's 128-year history.
