The San Diego Public Library and Computers 2 SD Kids are teaming up to provide computers and training to kids and families in need. This partnership improves computer literacy for children and their families, regardless of their economic status.
At a kickoff event at the Serra Mesa-Kearny Mesa Branch Library in April, 15 low-income families received computer training and free computers. In coming months, the partnership will be expanded to additional library locations. VISIT HERE for a San Diego Union-Tribune story on this program.
Many children of low-income families have no home access to technology and are at a significant disadvantage compared to children with home computers. This limits the family’s ability to compete in today’s technology-driven world. Computers 2 SD Kids recycles and refurbishes used computers and delivers them to families in need. They also provide education, training and technical support, available in both English and in Spanish. The Library provides a perfect venue for outreach and education to San Diego’s diverse community.
“With a computer at, families and students will take a big leap forward in their ability to make use of technology,” said Library Director Deborah Barrow.
