Local Libraries Booked Solid

The San Diego Union-Tribune cites "tough economic times" as a factor driving increases in library usage. This past fiscal year, the San Diego Public Library had the greatest circulation in the system's 127-year history.

On Thanksgiving, the San Diego Union-Tribune detailed the critical importance of public libraries during challenging economic times. The article notes how San Diegans are using their library to research and apply for jobs, free community meeting space, homework help and access to free DVDs, CDs and books.

"I use the computer for looking on Craigslist for jobs," said one patron of the Mission Valley Branch Library. "I grew up ina  low-income family without money for CDs and books, and the lbirary gave us all those things," said another library patron.
