Graphic novels are an increasingly popular library resource for young San Diego readers. A recent article in the La Jolla Light noted how this San Diego Public Library resource is attracting teen readers. VISIT HERE to read this article.
Graphic novels are self-contained stories told through words and artwork. The La Jolla Light article explains that checkouts and renewals of these piece increased 75 percent this past fiscal year versus fiscal year 2008.
These pieces are helping attract often reluctant teen readers. "Graphics add some excitement … make it more fun, especially for the young people who are so used to visual stimulation from television, movies and computers so they like graphic images with their reading," said Stephen Wheeler. Wheeler helps select graphic novels for the San Diego Public Library collection.
