Tremendous progress has been made in the last two days to move the new Central Library project forward. The San Diego Unified School District Board and the City Council's Rules Committee took action toward locating a charter high school on the site of the new library. This inspired proposal not only helps create an exciting learning opportunity for San Diego students but helps advance the Central Library project.
The Board of the San Diego Unified School District on Tuesday voted to use $20 million in Proposition S bond funds towards a lease on a charter high school in the new library. The school would occupy the sixth and seventh floors of the building.
There have been calls from The San Diego Union-Tribune, former Council President Scott Peters and others urging the City Council to take action now. In the coming weeks, the City Council will begin deliberations on sending the project out for construction bids.
The San Diego Public Library Foundation is looking to identify those willing to speak or write letters in support. If you are willing to offer this support, please contact Charlie Goldberg at or (619) 238-6620.
